Who is your favourite character
There's a book barn near Sedbergh which "had" a whole bunch of Giles annuals. They have now fled south to make Autumn a giggle.
Giles was producing satirical political and social comment in 1944. His books cover the whole spectrum of this country's social and political history since that time. The images from 1946 - 1948 make for amusing reading, yet reveal the harsh realities of life for "The Victors."
My favourite character is Grandma, closely followed by "Chalkie" the Headmaster. He reminds me of a harsh, yet fair, teacher from the 60s.
