Leucodendrons Through the Window
I took a picture of this flaming leucodendron lighting up our hill on a rainy day. I went outside, very briefly, to get a picture but decided I liked the reflections on the window and the layered effect due to the telephoto shot taken from the window.
We forgot to get the mail yesterday, so along with the paper this morning John brought up a stack of mail containing a fat envelope marked, SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS. OPEN IMMEDIATELY. Information on everything from pre- and post-op instructions and appointments, orders for blood work and exercises to
directions for logging onto the surgery center website were contained within. It really could have waited until tomorrow as it wasn't really the way I wished to start the day. I've spent most of it sitting on the couch, looking out at the rain and knitting.
John and I shared a fresh dungeness crab for lunch...not our usual lunchtime fare, which is usually taken more or less on the run, and assembled rather than prepared. But John bought the crab and it needed to be eaten, so we sat down and enjoyed it in a fairly civilised fashion. Not that eating freshly cracked crab is an elegant pursuit. One literally has to go at it hammer and tongs to release the meat from the shells, but it was quite the treat dipped in lemon mayonnaise. We haven't had any local crab for several years as the season is delayed for a variety of reasons to do with protecting other species from the nets and lines of the crab pots.
Sunday supper at Dana and Jim's tonight. Spike will need to stay home tonight as wet dogs won't be desirable companions at the table.
