March of the Gillies
Every year the march of the gillies from Gillies Hill to the site of the Battle of Bannockburn is re-enacted. It has become an awareness raising event for the Save Gillies Hill campaign and this year's good turn-out was probably due to the recent threat of quarry re-activication. The march starts in Cambusbarron and then proceeds through the woods of Gillies Hill to the monument of Robert the Bruce at Borestone. The monument and site are currently being renovated in time for the opening of the new heritage centre next year, the 700th anniversary of the battle.
Apart from the many local residents of the area, the march is also supported by these
"actors" in full costume, the gentleman on the left and carrying the Lion Rampant being no less a personage than Robert the Bruce himself!
