Going up…
There is a gravelled area opposite the rugby rooms on Paradise Gully Road which is used as a pull-off for stock trucks, road repair trucks and the road grader, as well as a storage space for piles of road gravel, and by the local lines company for power poles today.
This concrete one even has its crosspieces fixed on already, so will be going up somewhere along the road in the next few days. There are areas next to old power poles east of the village already coned off in readiness for the work.
I wish there had been a linesman there to ask why some poles are concrete and some are wooden. You can see two more of each in the background.
There was no problem of overheating today. Quite the reverse: I wore four layers of clothing for our walk! And Bean was absolutely full of energy, galloping and zooming about the place.
It is only 16C with a briskly cool southwesterly wind.
What a difference, thanks to a huge high pressure system to our west which is dredging cold air up from the Southern Ocean. It brought 17mm of rain overnight, which is most welcome. And there’s talk of 5C tonight. I’ll have an extra blanket on standby. That’s very weird after sleeping under no more than a cotton sheet last night.
