A BIT OF A DAY
Aaaarrgggh - to add to everything I just lost all that I just typed - now have to start again!!!
Something made us leaver extra early this morning, so glad we did. The drive on the M6 was not great - very very wet and very blowy, this is before Jocelyn makes an appearance!!! Had to really concentrate to keep the car straight!!!
We decided to leave at Junction 33 and go to Barton Grange for Coffee as the hospital is not too far from there - what a mistake!!! We got about three quarters the way there when the 3rd set of traffic lights for building works was stuck on red on our side. The tailback was rather large, so I turned round and drove all the way back to Junction 33 and continued down the M6.
Go to the hospital no problem, well apart from the storm weather. Nowhere to park, at all - even the disabled car park was very full. We eventually found a spot in Car Park G. It's quite a walk to the entrance from there with not always paths and lots of traffic and it was still stormy. We got rather wet!!!
We eventually got there. Had a sandwich and a coffee and then went to the Pre-Op Assessment Waiting Room about 30 minutes early. They were very good and started seeing us early. Whilst going through a long list of questions the Nurse suddenly asked about vitamin supplements.. Rob only takes two, Vitamin D and Glucosamine. Her face dropped. She said he should have been advised to stop taking these two weeks prior to the operation. Well it was less than two weeks ago that we had a date and no-one has ever mentioned this to us before. In fact the only thing he has been advised on is to not eat or drink anything, except water or black coffee or black tea from midnight the night before the operation!!!
The Nurse said she would contact the Surgeon and Anaesthetist about the vitamins and they would get back to us. They took quite a few bloods and then as he was coming out of the CT Scanner that Nurse rang again and said to come back. She had managed to get hold of the Anaesthetist and he had arranged for further bloods to be taken specifically to measure coagulent levels, if these were OK then the operation could go ahead. We won't know until tomorrow!!! This obviously left us both rather deflated and a bit down.
We got home OK though, no problems. Just had large black coffee and some dinner. CumbriaLass sent me some great photos of Fletch (her dog) which cheered me up no end).
I will catch up with you all tomorrow, but right now I'm just shattered and a bit down. Trying to practice what Mrs Gladders has taught me, I wish I was as good at it as she is!!!
Do take care everyone and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
