La Palma

Reaching an altitude of 2426 metres on a land base of less than 706 sq km, La Palma is the world’s steepest island.  Lying on the NW tip of the archipelago it has a cool, moist climate and lush vegetation.  The mountainous interior is covered with forests of pine, laurel and giant fern.

We walked into the island’s main town, Santa Cruz de la Palma which was about 10 minutes from the port.  Rather warmer here and very sunny.
