Eycott Hill Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve.
It was a dry fairly sunny day, a rarity in recent weeks. Clickychick suggested we brave the wind and have a walk up on the local nature reserve. So well wrapped up we headed out.
Being the only upland reserve of the Cumbria WT it is usually, shall we say, damp. Today water was running down slopes even when we were only 2 or 3 feet from the top. We paused at the viewpoint, while CC was taking shots from the viewpoint I scrambled to the top of a nearby hillock. This is the view. If you look carefully on Blencathra (the high ground to the left) you can see a few patches of snow hanging on along the cornice line.
One comical story about the large tree. I was on a plant recording day with CWT staff, the county Biodiversity officer, and volunteers. When we arrived at the VP one of the staff said to the officer, "We added a new species the other day". "Oooh waht was it?" was the reply. Your standing under it! Despite a number of days recording on the reserve nobody had thought to include the thumping great Ash Tree.
