Mural town Sheffield

It’s terrible weather, raining, cold and windy today. We took the bus to Dove Lake, where we did a few short walks in the rain to glacier rock, to a hut, and one of the 60 short walks called enchanted walk where we viewed wombats burrows, and a cascading river. As the weather was so bad we decided to finish early…
In the afternoon Larry kindly got permission for us to change the schedule, due to bad weather, and we went to Sheffield. One hour away, we left cradle mountain wilderness village, and about 200 metres down hairpin bends we entered a different climate, less windy, warmer and more sunny!
The town started to decline after the completion of power stations so the residents decided to create a Town of Murals, inspired by a similar project in Canada. Started in 1986 the town now has over 60 murals decorating the buildings depicting history and nature. A mural fest art competition is held annually and we viewed the past winners displayed in the park. They were so amazing!
We arrived back in wilderness village and back to high winds and a lot of heavy rain. Luckily I bought overtrousers in Sheffield, which I’m sure I’ll use a lot!
