The Kirkgate Centre

Leith’s Kirkgate Centre isn’t exactly filled with designer shops and chichi boutiques - stores there include a Lidl, a Poundland, a Poundstretcher, a newsagent, a charity shop and a couple of pawn shops. The closest it gets to fancy is a newish branch of Costa Coffee and a pretty decent branch of Superdrug.

Social media influencers don’t flock there to make cute videos and you can move around freely without tripping over Instagram models using it as a backdrop for photoshoots. It doesn’t feature in any tourist guides or feature on picture postcards.

Despite all this, if you look up - especially on a sunny day like today - the lines of the building and the buildings around it form some pretty pleasing patterns.
