Evensong
Recently found after 20 years and restored it was unveiled today at the Minster and used at the end of evensong to lead a procession of the clergy, choristers and congegration around the cathedral finishing by the Kelham Madonna statue in the Crossing /Transcept, where where we all sang together arranged in a large circle, and which was amplified in that space; it sounded wonderful
The banner was created soon after this Minster church was granted cathedral status 140 years ago. It will be encased for public display and preservation soon, being used only occasionally for that reason too.
The organ music and singing was exceptional tonight - the prelude organ work variations piece was quirky, I later really enjoyed the Michael Tippet choral music work and ended with exiting "Organ Voluntary" by Widor. Incense always greatly adds to the occasion too.
The boy choristers have improved much over the last few years and there was a impressive cathedral quality solo by one boy tonight. The lay clerks as usual were top class. I chatted with the boy's grandma afterwards ( I found out) who was overjoyed and I congratulated the boy.
Wellbeing
My medical procedure revealed nothing of concern yesterday though the "I'll be going in quickly" from the Consultant was not necessarily what I wanted to hear!
Rugby
I missed our sons rugby, but was very pleased to hear the first team coaches calling him out for a great performance in a thorough beating against Market Raesen yesterday,
