The Singleborough Poppy
I call this the Singleborough poppy because my Aunt Birdie had hundreds of these (cabbage leafed) opium poppies growing everywhere on the small farm in Singleborough near Winslow in Buckinghamshire. At the end of a season one year I visited & collected lots of seed which I scattered in our garden. Every year I am reminded of those good times we had when we visited the farm with great family get-togethers.
Sadly time has moved on & Birdie has gone to a better place along with her 3 brothers Pete, Reg & Hector (my Dad). The one photographed is a single flower variety but over the years they have cross pollinated & we get lots of different types of flower ranging from a light mauve to a very bright red double.
Carol has gone to work....not home till 5-ish.
My jobs for the day are to repaint the fire surround go to the docs & go to the bank to see if there is anything in it !
It is a cool blustery morning so far with the odd patch of blue sky
