Farewell Bend
Farewell Bend is a place where Oregon Trail pioneers, headed for the Willamette Valley, departed the Snake River to continue the trek over land...circa 1840.
During the day, we drove from a national forest in Western Washington to this dry-looking place on the East side of the state of Oregon. Along the way, we stopped at the Whitman Mission, a national park near Walla Walla.
The mission did not result in any photographs worth publishing. So, after dinner, I went out to the river and foraged this view. The river is dammed up downstream, making this a lake. In the foreground, you see a boat launch and people fishing. It seemed a popular pass time at this location.
