No pavement parking
Yesterday, Edinburgh became the first city outside of London to make it illegal to park on pavements (along with other restrictions) with the introduction of £100 fine for those who continue to do so.
Anyway, here is Regent Street, which is next to the charity shop I volunteer in at Portobello. Previously, cars bumped up onto both sides of the pavements which then allowed cars to drive up or down the street. However, as of yesterday they have both had to fully park on the road, which as you can see means that there is not much space for cars to drive up and down.
Apparently, yesterday there was a fire engine testing whether they could still get their emergency vehicle down the street, and as you can maybe guess, it couldn’t.
Messages (as you can see in the extra), have been put under the windscreens of cars which are still pavement parking. Guessing, these are warnings prior to fines being dished out.
My thinking is that an easy answer to this would be to put double yellow lines down one side of the road, which will then sort it, straightaway. I wonder if the council have thought of this.
Here’s hoping you have enjoyed Tuesday.
