Not A Step

This morning Alan came to Do Something about the Bad Step. 

After chopping and grinding and sawing (or whatever, it sounded like it was happening) we are left with this, Not A Step, which will be finished off and rendered neatly tomorrow.
And he didn't even want a cup of coffee!
