WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

The Little Bookshop

The shop opened in November but it was the first time I went in today.
What a lovely shop!
I came across a book that really appealed to me. Social historical fiction.
It’s actually a children’s book - older kids - but I really enjoy them.
After a wander round Skipton I had to go to Morrison’s for a big shop.
Oh my goodness how the prices have shot up again! I really don’t know how families with children can afford to eat - especially those on Universal Credit which barely covers their outgoings.
Then on the news this morning the MP George Freeman can’t afford to pay his mortgage though his salary was £118,000! They are so out of touch with real people.
I went to the Fent Shop which sells curtain and dress fabrics and trimmings and knitting wool. I was disappointed to hear that they will be closing down in September. Another victim of on-line shopping the owner told me. Such a shame.
I went to Moorey’s health shop and bought some lovely soap. The soaps are round and last for ages and smell delicious. Also managed to find biodegradable kitchen bin bags there as the other place that used to sell them has stopped.
It’s been lovely and sunny today, though still icy cold.
I received a text today from a friend - Pauline - in Scotland who we haven’t seen for about 4 years. She and her husband will be passing through Hellifield tomorrow and asked if we were free. We are but I have a Dr’s appointment at 10.30 in Settle so we agreed to meet there as they will be heading home and don’t want to leave too late.
The Drs appointment is an HRT review. They keep telling me I should stop it but I don’t want to. Last time it was the pharmacist who spoke to me and when I said I didn’t want to stop taking it she said ‘Well, it will be stopped when you’re 70 anyway!’
That got my hackles up, the latest NICE guidelines say women should have the opportunity to discuss their issues with an HRT specialist and each woman is different and some may require HRT a lot longer than others. There may be risks but there are also many benefits - it protects against cardiac disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimers,
muscle loss also with patches there is no increased risk of blood clots. For me these outweigh the low risk of breast cancer and I lead a healthy life and eat a very healthy diet.
I was originally prescribed HRT by Dr Currie, the founder of Menopause Matters - because I had continuous bad palpitations even at rest and she said it was due to low oestrogen. I used to work with her in her clinics.
The HRT I take is not the one cruelly extracted from the urine of pregnant horses, it is a bio identical hormone.
Quality of life is most important to me.

Anyway, that’s all about my day.
Goodnight ;-) x
