Bugs on the beach

As we walked along the beach this morning we ran into a “plague” of labybirds. They seemed to be hatching out of the sand then flying around trying to figure out where they were. We tried to bring some back for the rosebushes, but there were no takers. I’ve never heard or seen this phenomenon before.
