Cobden

I would have had a great photo of Hector and Monty at Dog Club today if only I’d remembered to take my phone. Instead, the only picture I did take is this one from a Richard Cobden talk and exhibition I went to last night. Cobden was born here and moved back later in life after he’d been busy repealing the Corn Laws, etc. There is now a database of 5000 of his letters online - he was a prolific correspondent!

This pamphlet was a cause Cobden believed in, particularly as one of his sisters had to go overseas to marry her widowed brother-in-law in 1840 (when it was seen as incestuous). The law was finally changed in 1907.
