The Starling Pose

Today it was starlings that dominated the feeder. I watched them while wading through my second (and last) day of the working week. The birds give me a lovely release from long hours of staring at a computer screen.

There is a hierarchy within the bird world. The big, heavy ground feeders sit for hours waiting for the seed to magically fall to the ground for them. And it does, especially when the bickering starlings appear. It literally showers on their heads. Often, fighting ensues as the pigeons elbow the doves and smaller birds out of their way. Soon the starlings leave, the ground is picked over and all becomes calm again.
