Cartagena

We spent the day in Cartagena today.
These are pics of the Roman Theatre there, built in the 1st century BC , and recently renovated.

The Museum tour is fascinating , but stepping out into the theatre itself was an amazing experience!

It sat 7000 people originally, then later became a market , then the Moors built on it followed by the Byzantines then the district fishermen etc! I found it hard to believe it was still there under all that !

And to be able to touch the marble engravings that were over 2000 years old and walk down the steps trodden on by Romans was quite humbling.

In the port there was a huge cruise ship, apparently its capacity was 4500! As we walked along the road we met a couple we knew from home who were on the liner! What are the chances?

Very interesting day indeed!
