Floating gauge

Another heating meeting today at church as we explore the potential use of air source heat pumps for our halls. We went up into the roof spaces, out into the garden and into the boiler room.

Tucked in behind a brick wall are two large (and now empty) oil tanks from the days before the gas boilers went in.

On the wall outside is this gauge. The metal tag at the top is connected to a float in the tanks. When full there were over 600 gallons. As the oil level dropped the tag rose up the wall. I like the detail of the “order level” line.

The rest of the day was end of January paperwork, a shop, then a quick visit to the dentist for a couple of fillings.

This morning was very windy. By lunchtime it was horrendous with drenching rain and gusts that nearly knocked you off your feet. Small rubbish bins were tumbling down the street once emptied. As my dentist described it we were experiencing a weather bomb.
