While on my runs

Kauri gum

One year ago (almost to the day) Auckland suffered severe flooding and winds, and many residents and homes have yet to recover. Some roads remain either closed to all but residents, or (as near us on three roads) the road is narrowed by the collapse of a portion and controlled by traffic lights. Temporary; for more than 11 months.

Today the wind suddenly increased in ferocity. I decided on a jog before the rain, and squeezed it in. Although, the rain we got was mere sprinkles. The wind must have caused a tree, or branch of a big tree,to fall and we were without electricity for just over an hour. The workers do not waste time.

On my jog I saw a large Kauri beside the road. It had abviously suffered some damage and has extruded what will eventually become Kauri gum, a substance highly prized and dug up in the late 19th century.
