Hurled shoes

I don't get this. Please tell me if it happens in your state or country. I believe it is a youth culture thing, but is it a statement, anarchy or just plain silly? At least one pair looks totally worn out with the sole hanging off but some of them look OK, logo and tread clear. Today there are five pairs while very recently there were only four.
