Berthelot Street
This narrow steep hill used to be the main road out of town to the west of the island. It is steeper towards the top; in fact so steep that horses could not be used to transport goods up or down to the harbour. However donkeys were able to cope with carrying loads up or down the hill.
This may well be the reason that Guernsey folk are known as donkeys. I’m very proud to be a Guernsey Donkey!
And today I reached a frightening milestone of three quarters of a century. I swear I was in my early 50s a couple of years ago! Where does time go…
