Inveraray
A very good Yes Scotland meeting tonight in Inveraray. The wee town was , as ever, looking great and wearing its history well under a big Argyll sky.
Before the meeting we had something to eat in the famous George Hotel, on the left. It was in this hotel bar , sometime in late 1941. , that my father - then a 21 year old sergeant in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders - received news of his posting to the intelligence corps taking him away from mountain training by Loch Fyne which was part of his reintroduction to the regiment after a long period of recuperation from the wounds he got at Dunkirk.
He was so delighted that for the rest of his life, when passing through Argyll, he would always stop for a drink in the George.
