…. I saw a young one of these Eurasian Eagle Owls, up in the mountains near Anzeindaz. Since then I have never seen one. So when a friend told me there is now a pair nesting not far from our home and offered to show me … well how could I resist? There are about 200 couples in Switzerland (where it is called the Hibou Grand Duc, a beautiful name) and they are very difficult to see as they are the largest night bird, predators, in Europe. I shall be visiting this view point again until I see the female as well, my friend saw both last night. We heard both tonight, that deep resonating “whooo hooo”. What a thrill and a privilege. Thank you, Eurasian Eagle Owl.
Extra to show where we first saw it, a few metres below where the female was sitting on the nest we think … I might not sleep tonight … too excited!
