Hopton Castle
Took the spaniel for a grey and drizzly walk around Hopton Castle this morning. The castle is believed to have been built in the 1260s on the site of a previous 12th century motte and bailey. It became notorious during the English Civil War when, after a three week siege in 1644, the defending Roundheads surrendered and were (allegedly) massacred.
