The Nail
In my home town is this nail sculpture. It was donated by the artist Sam Shendi, in 2011, to celebrate Silsden's industrial history of nail making. The first record of a Silsden nail maker is in a local register and dates 1761. At the height of the Industry there were 209 nail making smithies within a mile of Silsden, mainly farmers supplementing their income. By 1850 it was declining and disappeared all together by 1919.
It's not easy to get a decent picture due to it's location in front of the main car park! I have the car park behind me here and we are looking across to the Parish Church of St James.
