Portrait of the unemployed

This family was sitting outside their one-bedroom room in a strip motel. Both parents are unemployed; cannot find work. It is hot but who wants to be in a stuffy hotel room (for which they pay $1000 a month) all day? The parents were fine to be photographed, and commanded the younger son to pose. The elder son seems a bit embarrassed by all this. Unemployment steals dignity from people, and it starts pretty young.

There were a few other photogenic people on the street today. Mostly friendly too.
