Turtle
I am part of a group run by the SMASS (Scottish Marine Animals Stranding Society) and in the past have helped sample (tske chunks out of) whales and dolphins washed up on Uist. Today it was a turtle that was reported.
A pretty thing and a metre long from snout to tail. it was clearly freshly dead. Indeed when talking to the experts, I was advised to give it a good prod in the eye and the unmentionables to check it was dead as they can go into a coma induced by the cold in Scotish waters. Sadly this one was as dead as a Norwegian Blue.
As it was in such good condition, the experts wanted it for a post mortem on the mainland so a body bag was found and we (another whale cutter had arrived) carried it to the trusty Quasqai and then on to the island couriers.
There was a bemused look there when I suggested that they might want to take a dead turtle across to the mainland but it was duly put on a pallet for removal tomorrow.
Every day is different!
