The flying mechanics

This morning we (eventually) left the tiny airport at Tamarindo on the pacific coast for San Jose and then our onward return trip to the UK.
We climbed into the little Cessna plane pictured, the pilot fired the engine up, we lurched forwards a few metres towards the grass, then stopped again. We were told the brakes were faulty and had to disembark again. They sent another plane out from San Jose within an hour with a couple of engineers on board carrying a box of tools! Here you can see them starting to repair the faulty brakes as we departed safely on the replacement plane. Fortunately we had plenty of time to spare and did not miss our connection at San Jose.
The "airport" at Tamarindo actually consisted of a tarmac runway, a sheltered waiting area with a few benches, and a tiny office with a computer terminal and a pair of scales. It was adjacent to a farm, so there were hens and chickens wandering around - see extra shot of our broken down plane.
At one point, one of the officials had to go and move some horses that were straying too close to the runway!

This is a back blip and we are now back home after a long journey and a great adventure holiday.
