Australian Magpie in a Gumtree

The Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is a black and white bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea, and introduced to New Zealand.
For most of the year, Magpies are friendly and sociable, and may even venture into your house to beg for food. But for four to six weeks a year during August to September, the male Magpie will defend his home vigorously.

Something I have not notice myself but after googling the Magpies, I have been told that the australian Magpies differ by the number of toes. They have four toes, three facing forward and one backwards Next time I try to get even closer. ☺️
