The Blauw Sjuut

De Blauw Sjuut has a history of 46 centuries. A predecessor of the ship of fools was already dragged through the streets of ancient Babylon during festivities around 2600 BC. The Greeks, Romans and Germanic people also used ship wagons. The guild of the Blauw Sjuut uses 1133 as the year of birth of its own boat, which was built by a farmer from Kornelimunster. The Carnival Association de Winkbulle were smart enough to claim the phenomenon in 1949 and since then the barge has been indispensable. For a week, before carnival, the crew travels with the barge from village to city in the Euregio.
The current ship of fools was inspired by 'The Blue Barge' by Hieronymus Bosch.

The south of the Netherlands is again in turmoil because of carnival. My outfit for tomorrow's school carnival party is already ready next to my cycling outfit.
We're going on a bicycling tour on Monday.
