Amsterdam, 1862 -- Can You Count How Many?

They stretch all the way to the back of the picture.  It looks like every street had one.  All of the windmills in the picture have gone.  Of the hundreds of mills that once twirled their sails in the capital, only eight are left.

Shot this from the Molendatabase website -- it has a kind of slide-show on the main page, and this photograph was one of those displayed.  Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates was written around this time, and published in 1865.  If Mary Mapes Dodge had really visited here, she would have most likely come across this kind of skyline.  Wouldn't it have been a thrill for me!

You can tell it's been a grey day outside.  Right?  To be fair, we did have a wee hour of sunshine, vaguely through the cloudy veils, but the cold wind was a turn-off.

Began catch-up bookkeeping to close 2023.  Thankful for all that was earned, thankful for what we spent it on, thankful for what was left.  And I'm seriously thinking of MOOCking again soon.
