HOA meeting today. We discussed a bunch of maintenance projects for the common areas. I wish we had a community garden although the deer would be a problem.
Work was one step forward one steps back today. I am trying to decouple the file system for a database container by mounting it as a volume, but something weird is happening with the file permissions and the container os can’t seem to write. I’m sure there is just some small configuration I missed and it will likely take me 100 hours to figure it out.

Just finished a book on American history that I found interesting. The main argument was that there has always been tension between the divine right of kings and the inalienable rights laid out in the declaration of independence. She provided an analysis of American history on that axis.

What jumped out was how not new Trumpism is in terms of dogma and objective. What is new is the efficiency of the tools they are using to radicalize their following. The author spent some time looking at Hitlers political mobilization philosophy and while I am sure Trump hasn’t read Mein Kampf he seems to follow the same strategy by nature.

Another fascinating bit was how American media failed to handle Trump properly. Our media outlets were sucker for his sensationalist antics and failed to properly cover what was happening behind the scenes. The author provided biographical data on the various people Trump brought into his cabinet and when the administration is viewed through the sum total of their political projects a very dire picture comes into view.

I am very unsettled about the future of American democracy.
