Hidden gem!

Newhailes, Musselburgh is an interesting National Trust for Scotland property with a lovely walk around it. At this time of the year the wild flowers and birdsong are spectacular.
This shell grotto in the grounds is the most complete one is Scotland, dating from the 1760s. The exterior is made of large boulders and slag mimicking the appearance of a volcano. The interior was once panelled in wood and covered in plaster, embedded into which were fragments of glass and shells(collected by the Dalrymple family locally and in China)as well as minerals including agate, quartz and garnet.
