Cathedral

Thirteen years ago we ended a trip to NZ in Akaroa on the outskirts of Christchurch. We felt the earthquake and the aftershocks for days but fortunately were able to fly home 6 days later as planned.

So it was good to get back to Christchurch, a city still recovering, renewing, regenerating.

The old cathedral was badly affected but the new Christchurch Transitional Cathedral (the ‘Cardboard Cathedral’) is a triumph - built within a year: cardboard, wood, steel & polycarbon. Lucky to hear a choir recital rehearsal.

River Avon, botanic gardens, memorials, demolition, galleries & public art - a beautiful city.
