The official start

Carnival, Vastenavend, started today with the entry of the Prince. Lots of music groups, called ‘dweilbandjes’, making music on the streets and in the cafe’s. Everybody knows the songs they play, because they are the songs specially written for the theme each year since the beginning of Vastenavond. The Prince comes to town in a parade with music, and with the key players of Vastenavend. The old firetruck is the favorite of most children, spraying confetti instead of water.
