Alma Mater

Returned to UBC today for another game. Went early to walk the campus. The setting is one of the most beautiful anywhere.

l. The centre of the main library shows the style of the some of the original buildings, 100 years ago.

c. The view from the north edge of the campus, over the Rose Garden and across the entrance to Vancouver Harbour to the Coast Mountains and Howe Sound.

r. A totem pole, gifted to the university in 1948, topped by a Thunderbird a powerful symbol in Coastal Indigenous culture.
In the same year UBC sports teams received full permission to use the name “Thunderbird” from the Kwakwaka’ wakw people of BC’s West Coast. UBC is the only institution that is legally allowed to use the Thunderbird name and symbol. It is a name and symbol that UBC students and alumni wear proudly.

The Women’s Basketball win streak came to and end today in a loss to the number four ranked team in Canada. Playoffs next…Go ‘Birds!
