Finding My Bearings

By JustJuli

I’m still smiling!

Despite being the shortest half term, the past few weeks have been rough. Although most of my lessons have gone well, behaviour is good and my observation feedback has largely been positive (my head of department is even going to snaffle one of my ideas), the behaviour in a couple of my lessons was appalling and I’m now in the humiliating position of being put on a ‘Support Plan’ when we go back after half term. No point worrying about it, though, I’ll just have to ‘suck it up’, as they say, and deal with whatever it brings.

A few years ago, a GP friend of mine told me that the single biggest group of people he had to prescribe antidepressants to were teachers. He told me not to be fooled by the fact that they look like they have everything worked out and I always think about what he said when teaching feels tough, because it is.

At Tesco this morning there were some booklets by the till, advising teenagers about how to deal with stress. They actually looked really helpful but I did laugh at the thought that only teachers would probably buy them.

Anyway, my husband and I are going away tomorrow for a few days, I’m not going to think about work until we get back, and I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone on here.
