Sand Beach Shipwreck Debris

I finally got over to Sand Beach to see how altered it was after the last couple of big storms, and did indeed find it noticeably different. Significant parts of the dunes were washed away and the water came up much further than I had ever seen on a calm day. Some parts of the newly exposed shipwreck that was washed out to sea had drifted back to shore and become embedded in the sand. The park service tagged them so they could be tracked in the future, which is kind of a neat idea. The whole experience was still a bit sobering though. A man with a small child asked me "Will the water come up much higher?" I knew he meant the tide, but it still felt grimly naive. I told him I had never seen the beach look anything like this before, so I really couldn't say.
