Distant light

When this light left the sun on its journey to earth we were back in the woods, the light shadowed by clouds, the wind feeling chill.

As we emerged by the inner seawall the clouds parted and we felt the warmth of that distant sun. Not a new thing, not a sudden thing, but something that had just been lost to our sight for a while.
One of my favourite phrases in all of literature is "day-blind stars" which speaks of unseen light, light that waits for us, that guides us still.
I guess you could call that hope.
