Bagpuss, that soft, fat, furry cat puss, is 50 today.
Star of the small screen, and bringer of unparalleled delight to all of us who grew up in the 70s. A time when only two tv channels, for a golden hour or two a day, offered mental refuge from the worst of what childhood could bring. Hurrah for Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, what joy their creations delivered…and still do.
