Nutria

We had a great morning at the refuge! We saw this nutria ( nutria rat) grazing . Not the best picture as he was quite a ways away. Nutria are large aquatic rodents considered to be invasive and a nuisance. They damage levees due to burrowing and damage vegetation as they are herbivores. I still love to see them. Some people eat them and they are supposed to be one of the best meats for dogs. They are compared to rabbit and dark turkey in taste. I would love to try the meat. It’s not a thing around here is is quite popular in Louisiana, I understand.
We got back home and j finished trimming the muscadines. I fed the animals then we made some grapevine wreaths with the trimmings.
