Snow…?

No, Snow Geese. Left, a part of a large flock. Right, a couple of independents.

Over 100 000 Lesser Snow Geese migrate south, from their breeding ground on Wrangel Island in Siberia, down the west coast of North America as far south as California. Most rest at the mouth of the Fraser River in BC or the Skagit River in Washington State before continuing south.
A large flock winters in BC and fattens up for the return to Siberia.Their red chins are the result of digging in the fields and foreshore marshes for root crops and rhizomes. They also use use the fields and their large grouping for defense as together they can see approaching predators.
When they are not resting they practice their formations high above the area.

Extra is the entire group.
