Day 046/24. Twitchers on the harbour.
Langstone Harbour is a winter location for Brent Geese. A high proportion of the species over-winter in the marchland around Langstone Harbour.
Tens of thousands of the small black geese (see extra picture today) migrate up from wintering here up through the English channel en route to the Wadden Sea on the Dutch, German and Danish coasts. This is just a stop-over until the final leg of their journey through the Gulf of Finland to the Russian High Arctic where they breed in the summer months.
