Bridge over the River Thames
We went to have lunch today with some friends who live near Abingdon. I grabbed a quick phone shot as we drove across the Thames which was looking pretty full. The bridge is between two pubs on the river's edge, The Rose Revived on one side and The Maybush on the other - both lovely names I've always thought. The lovely old bridge we were on, at the bottom of the photo, is known as Newbridge and is one of the two oldest surviving bridges across the Thames. It was built by Benedictine monks in the early 13th century on the orders of King John to improve access between the wool towns in southern England and the Cotswold farms supplying the wool.
