Excitement in South Atlantic

Maiden and Spirit of Helsinki race hard to finish leg 3 of the Ocean Globe Race from Auckland to Punta del Este, Uruguay.

After 33 days of leg 3 including a white knuckle passage round Cape Horn the two boats are within 2 NM of each other with 40 NM to go. They will be second and third to arrive out of 12 boats. Arrival is expected around 0200 UTC tomorrow.

Maiden is an all female crew replicating Tracy Edwards famous round the world achievement thirty years ago in the same boat.

The race started on 10th September 2023 from Southampton. Leg 4 back to Southampton commences on 5th Match.

Famous French boat Pen Duick VI skippered by Marie Tabarly arrived yesterday and was first over the line but not necessarily first on handicap
