Eel of the Past.

This is the old eel trap and sluice house on the Avon below Salisbury. About 170 years old. Up to the 1970`s,tons of live migrating eels were caught here and sent to Billingsgate. All long over now,and the eels can go to Saragosa virtually unmolested. What few there are left anyway. Usually head outwards to spawn from September to late November, having spent 5,6 or 7 years in the river.
