Sulky Scholar

For today I just sketched from a photo I took at the "Victorian Radicals" exhibition in Birmingham. I took the photo of the full picture by Rossetti because I liked the compositional arrangement of the heads and the intensity of the gazes, but I thought this child was a bit unusual. He has attitude!

The style reminded me a lot of contemporary children's illustrators, particularly Chris Riddell, who illustrated the Edge Chronicles.
