2024 Tuesday — Broken Pier
My friend Danna took this photo and this is what she is explaining about it: “More than a year of unrelenting, record storm swells have damaged the Cayucos Pier, which was initially closed this past weekend for safety during this week's storms. Some pilings and part of the deck from the end of the pier were broken off in the storm overnight. The pier will require an engineer's assessment once storm conditions improve. We love our Cayucos Pier and know you do too. We hope for a quick repair and opening.”
Late yesterday afternoon (Monday) we took a brief tour of our little town to see what the storm had caused. The pier was not broken at that time. During the late hours last night the strong storm surf tore the pilings at the end of the pier from the structure.
The pier was rebuilt in 2014-15 because it had suffered years of storm abuse. So, it will certainly need a rebuild at the end of the structure.
